English media have revealed that the renowned clothing brand Adidas had rejected the possibility of extending their partnership with Liverpool.
According to the Liverpool Echo medium, in 2012, Adidas refused the opportunity to extend their jersey deal with the Reds.
Liverpool had failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the last 12 years and the German sports brand claimed that the club's appreciation for themselves was inflated.
A chief executive officer said at the time: "The gap between their on-field performance and the number that should be is not in balance."
"Then we said, 'OK we won't do it.' This is the end of the story. "
"It all depends on the success, the effort and the popularity, the exposure on the TV, the income you can generate through the goods."
“All this has to be done in line with what you offer and what you receive. "We felt that what Liverpool were looking for and what they were delivering was not in the right balance."
On the contrary, Liverpool struck a deal with US brand Warrior Sports for £ 25m, saying Adidas was unable to realize the global appeal of the Reds.
The Reds are now said to have agreed a deal with Nike worth close to the British record £ 75million, but claim New Balance has equalized the offer, triggering a "matching clause" in their contract.
